Ryan Wilson is a senior physician assistant who cares for patients in the emergency room and serves as the chair of professional development for fellow advanced practice providers. He previously served as program coordinator for the UCSF Bariatric Surgery Center, where he assisted in minimally invasive surgeries (including robotic, laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures) and worked to facilitate the program's expansion.

Wilson's research focuses on how gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgeries affect metabolism. He also studies how to structure clinics to function more economically, improve patient care and decrease surgery delays.

Wilson earned a master's degree in physician assistant studies and a master of public health degree from Touro University California. He trained in patient care at several hospitals and private practices in California and Nevada, including by completing a highly sought after rotation with the Kaiser Fremont Bariatric Surgery Program. Prior to joining UCSF, he worked in emergency medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Sutter Health's CPMC Mission Bernal Campus, Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital and Sutter Lakeside Hospital.

Wilson is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, California Academy of Physician Assistants, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants.

Outside of work, Wilson spends time tending the crops at the organic lavender farm and apple orchard he owns. He also enjoys making handcrafted soap, rock climbing, backpacking and surfing.
